Christmas is right around the corner once more, but it's not the same nowadays. 2020 has been a rollercoaster of a year. Most people are stuck in quarantine and understandably want to be entertained. Luckily, we all have the media of music that has been effective in both pleasing our ears and eyes. From The Weeknd's chart-topping "Blinding Lights" to Miley Cyrus' powerful "Midnight Sky," there's plenty for people to enjoy.

Today, I interview one of the various, smaller artists making music nowadays whose efforts shouldn't go unnoticed. From YouTube to Spotify, meet Ace Richard Steiger or most commonly known as Papa Lxst:

Papa Lxst is an American singer-songwriter. His debut single "Love Paranoia" has received hundreds of views online and his debut EP "DEAD ROSE" is expected to release on December 31st, 2020.

1. Where did the name "Papa Lxst" come from?

My name used to be DrLustify. When I made YouTube videos, I would usually just go by "Lust" and some would call me "Papa Lust." So, I figured I'd replace the "U" in "Lust" with an "X". The name "Papa Lxst" feels more customized and personal that way.

2. Were you always interested in making music full-time?

No, I wasn't. I grew up wanting to be a YouTuber, ever since I was in the 5th grade. Up until early this year, I was making videos.

3. What's your favorite line/verse from "Love Paranoia?"

Keep my feeling hidden, feelings always switchin, but I'm paranoid, shit I cant avoid

I find it hard to show how I truly feel at times. I don't know how to truly express the emotions I get, which is why I love making music. When I'm writing songs late at night, its therapeutic for me. It becomes my outlet, my release.

4. What's your writing process for a song?

It's hard for me to sleep at night, especially while I have a million thoughts in my head, usually grim ones. When it comes to the darkness, I feel a sense of attraction for it, like it needs me as much as I need it. It fuels my lyrics, so when I cant sleep I'll begin to write and focus on a thought, as I let it flow and let it lead me to wherever direction it needs to go.

5. "Love Paranoia" originally had 152,000+ plays on SoundCloud. How did you feel about this?

It felt like the universe was trying to give me a sign that music was what I was meant to do. I didn't realize how many plays "Love Paranoia" had gotten until people kept asking me to make another song. I was truly shocked. It felt like there was a path waiting for me to take its course. An unfulfilled journey waiting to happen.

6. You have some really cool tattoos. What made you want to get them in the first place?

I love tattoos. It feels more natural for me to be more and more covered.

7. Broken hearts are heavily involved in your brand. Why?

I've always felt like my heart is broken. There's times where I think it's not but deep inside I know it is and I have no clue how I'd fix it.

8. Before making music full-time, you were quite successful on YouTube making video game montages and commentary videos. Since then, you've privated this content. Why?

I don't want to be known for my previous work. I feel like I have much more to offer. So, I wanted a clean slate, a fresh start.

9. Your EP "DEAD ROSE" is releasing on Christmas Day. Why Christmas?

I promised I would be releasing an EP this year. I planned on releasing an EP sooner, but I got so overwhelmed with personal issues that I didn't realize I was running out of time. The 25th is the last Friday of the year. So, I decided to give myself until then to officially release my 1st EP. I thought it was symbolic in a way too, and a nice way to end the year off.

10. Can we expect more music in 2021?

Yes, I'm planning on releasing plenty of music throughout the year. I'm actually releasing another EP on February 12th, 2021.

Papa Lxst has a very bright future ahead of him. I'm excited to hear what's next. *Stephen M. Green*
